Kollam,kerala.His real name is Muhammadthe Robin Hood of Kerala.

of a fish vendor at Umayanalloor,
Abdul Khader.His childhood was at Ithikkara near
chathannoor,Kollam.He was an honest thief and had
robbed only the richest people and then distributed the
treasure to the needy people.
The people of Ithikkara adored him and loved him.
His name Pakki(Butterfly) is derived from his flying speed
for doing things quickly.He had not cheated anybody while doing
his feats as a robber.It is also learnt that he had done the robbery
or feat after telling the concerned in advance.He died at the age of 45
due to cancer.Pakki was laid in the kabarsthan of Kottumpuram mosque,
sitharamukku,Mylakad,Kollam.
A honest thief??? Contrasting ideas, still much more real than the Robin Hoods and better than the Veerappans. Very nice insight in to the personal life of the often used character in Mallu land.

DeleteI suppose such ppl were required those days...I suppose India may have had lot of poverty along with lot of arbitrary & unfair law. English focused on taking wealth out, leaned on helpless kings to manage their show with ease, who in turn leaned on zamindars & feudals. Poor would have their own heroes to get a fair deal.

ReplyDeleteIthikkara pakki as well as kayamkulam kochunni were thiefs but the steal money and gave it to poor. And also in new malayalam movie kayamkulam kochunni mohanlal is playing the role ithikkara pakki . Kochunni is also a good thief who stand for poor welfare...

I am aged 69 and bolonging to Kollam. I heard much about Kayamkulam Kochunni,Ithikkara Pakki, Mulamootadima and Chembulingam, all of them are destined to become thieves having magnanimity to distribute their stolen valuables to poor and done Shadow fight against the English rulers and fudelism. That was a time of untouchability and the cruelly of the rich people towards the poor went to the extent of making them slaves and the poor are at blissful ignorance of their rights.
